Types of Dance

Argentine tango is a musical genre and accompanying social dance originating at the end of the 19th century in the suburbs of Buenos Aires and Montevideo. It typically has a or rhythmic time signature, and two or three parts repeating in patterns such as ABAB or ABCAC.

Our Argentine Tango breaks are hosted by top dancer and teacher Fernando Guidi who has spent many years looking into the background and origins of the dance.

Ballroom and Latin is a group of eleven dances (usually thought of as ten). Each of these dances are danced to a different style or rhythm of music, meaning that you can dance one of them to pretty much any type of music. Develop your dancing or update your dance techniques within a lighthearted and social atmosphere.

Linedance is exactly as the name suggests, a performance of a set routine by lines of individual dancers who don’t have partners. As it continues to grow in popularity, different trends emerge including disco, techno, hip-hop, Irish and Latin American. In essence it is very social and is a great dance style for solos to get together and have some fun on the dance floor.

Scottish country dance is the distinctively Scottish form of country dance, itself a form of social dance involving groups of couples of dancers tracing progressive patterns. A dance consists of a sequence of figures. These dances are set to musical forms (Jigs, Reels and Strathspey Reels) which come from the Gaelic tradition of Highland Scotland, as do the steps used in performing the dances

Sequence dancing is a form of dance in which a preset pattern of movements is followed, usually to music which is also predetermined. There are three categories, Classical Sequence, Latin Sequence and Modern Sequence, each with its own style and charm and many sequence dancers enjoy all three styles.
